SavLan2 CS winners 2001-08-15 16:35:14
by: Deadmode
Congratulations to TAA who won the CS competition that was held at SavLan2 last weekend.

Six clans entered the competition so I decided to split them into two groups of 3 clans. Each clan in the group of 3 played each other once, and the clan with the most points / wins after their games went through to the final. From start to finish the CS comp was more of a fun thing than a serious thing, even so there was a good standard of play. Unfortunately my results sheet for the CS comp got misplaced when I packed my gear up at the lan so I don't have the early heat results. Everyone involved seemed to enjoy themselves though and that was the main intention. At SavLan3 we hope to extend the CS side of things and offer some more substantial prizes.

Anyway, TAA won the Final 24-12 against the team I was playing in. We didn't really have a name as such, just an adoc team who fancied a game. :) Although I should mention that only 2 of TAA's team where regular TAA CS members. The original intention with the final was to play 2 x 20 mins games on a map of each teams choosing. Due to time constraints we decided to reduce this to just 2 x 20mins on 1 map in the end ... DUST2. Below are the screenshots from each game ...

In the 1st game, some kind soul unplugged Greyjackals's PC just before we were due to start and he wasn't able to play for the 1st 8mins or so. In the 2nd game Flight had to leave before the end as his lift had arrived, so it balanced out in the end.

Finally, thanks to RAGE Software for providing some copies of E RACER as prizes. A picture of the winners with prizes in hand can be seen here. Here's looking forward to SavLan3 and an extended CS event.

A Big Thankyou 2001-08-14 08:20:50
by: LJ
After a fantastic weekend at SavLAN2 (still trying to recover even though it's a Tuesday now), we would like to thank the following people/companies for their help and support ..

  • The Midlands Sports Centre for their venue and very supportive staff who did everything they could to accomodate us (shame they don't have a web site up yet).
  • Bez for his hard work with the set-up of the network and constant server changes, plus the loan of the games machines.
  • Mortis for the loan of most of the network kit at such short notice.
  • IESys for the loan of the 10/100Mbit switches at short notice.
  • Axia for coming down to help on the Thursday with setting up the LAN, only to drink the bar dry with the rest of us and also for the 2 hour round trip to get the kit from Mortis.
  • Scan for the network kit which eventually turned up on Monday morning :/
  • Dwarf for his organising of the competitions with his very own mobile PA system to aid his voice as it was hard enough to see him past the PCs 'cause of his height :)
  • Manta for his FTP server(s) :)
  • KJ for his shouts of "Stop leeching you basts" every so often :)
  • And finally to all the players who made the event a wicked experience :)
SavLAN3 coming up very soon :D

With 90 people now confirmed and more to come SavLAN2 is starting to shape up as the best LAN party we've done to date ..

There is space for up to 150 people so there is still time to signup and pay at the event. If you do this please mail me so I can add your name to the expected attendee list.

We have also now opened our prebook seating system so clan players can make sure they are seated together. More details can be found here.

One final bit of news for this update .. we have secured SCAN as our network kit suppliers and long term sponsors for this and future SavLAN's .. so not only do we have a full 100Mbit network to play on we have a DVD-RW to give away as a prize in a One on One compo at SavLAN2.

SavageEuro net based! 2001-07-26 10:44:05
by: Slave
It is with regret that we have been unable to secure enough sponsorship to host The Savage European Q3CTF Finals at SavLAN2 ..

To this end we have now made the decision that the competition finals will now be played via the NET on the same weekend as SavLAN2. Due to this we have agreed with BTexact that their presence at the event is no longer required and we thank them for the offer of sponsorship and look forward to working with them again in the future.

All is not lost however and SavLAN2 will have, via gTV, a live feed to the SavageEuro matches so players/spectators at the event will still be able to watch the finals live.

Details of the Q2, CS and Q3 competitions being held within the BYOC area will be posted very soon.

2 Sponsors confirmed .. 2001-07-19 09:05:12
by: Slave
We now have 2 confirmed sponsors for SavLAN2 ..

Our first is BTexact Technologies who, as well as supplying a few prizes, will be bringing along a full size body scanning booth (as seen at BT Zone in the Dome). This will enable people to get their own "avatars" to be used in Quake 3. More details about this very soon.

Our second is ATi Technologies who will be supplying some prizes for our BYOC area ..

As well as the above we have a few more in the pipeline, and I'll have some more details just as soon as we get them to sign on the dotted line.

Payment now required! 2001-07-08 06:56:03
by: Slave
We now require payment for entry to SavLAN2 ..

This event is now over subscribed, so places will be secured upon receipt of payment on a first come, first served basis. Once 150 places have been secured on any particular day, no more allocations for that day will be made. Places may still be available on other days, however. Please send payment as soon as possible to secure your place at the event. Once your payment has been received you will be sent a confirmation email.

3 day ticket: £35 (UK pounds)

Doors open on Friday 10th of Aug at 12noon.
Doors close on Sunday 12th of Aug at 7pm.

A 'day' means any part of any calendar day, not a 24 hour period. For example, if you are arriving at 1pm on Saturday, and leaving at 11am on Sunday you require a 2 day ticket.

Details of payment ..

Cheques should be made payable to "SavageUK" (without quotes) and sent to ..

If you now find you cannot come to the event please mail slave@savagecouncil.com to allow us to offer your place to someone else.

If you have not received a mail about payment and you have registered for the event please mail slave@savagecouncil.com to amend your details.

Venue Announced .. 2001-06-12 10:21:52
by: Slave
We are pleased to announce that Midlands Sports Centre has been chosen as the venue for SavLAN2 ..

As well as offering the required facilities, i.e. large enough hall, bar and an internet connection, the Midlands Sports Centre has the added bonus of superb transport links to all the major motorways. It is also only 10 miles from Birmingham International Airport and 50 yards away from Tile Hill railway station, making it as easy as possible for those without a car to come.

Full venue and transport details, including maps, can be found on our venue page.
